Event Day
Saturday, May 16, 2026 · 5:30 PM · Blacksburg High School

📍Venue

Blacksburg High School
3401 Bruin Lane, Blacksburg, VA 24060
Show runs about 2 hrs 45 mins with two intermissions.

🅿️Parking (FREE)

Free parking is available on-site at Blacksburg High School for theater events. The school features large, dedicated parking lots surrounding the campus — ample space for visitors. Easiest access is the left-side entrance, which leads to the theater.

Accessibility: Handicapped spaces are in all lots.

Arrival Times

Show start time: 5:30 PM.

Older dancers who need time to prepare — arrive 1 hour prior (4:30 PM)
Dancers who arrive prepared (ready to sit in their assigned seats) — arrive 45–30 minutes prior (4:45–5:00 PM)
Act 3 only, ages 5 and under — you may drop off during the first intermission.

🚶Backstage Access

Only performers and authorized volunteers backstage during the show. Parents please remain in the audience. Volunteers manage costume changes and line-up.

Volunteer spots are limited and require approval — volunteers are required to help all dancers in their care (not just their own). Volunteers do not need a ticket and must wear all black.

Interested? Request a volunteer spot › or email volunteers@thelittleleapers.com. Wait for confirmation before showing up.

💃Dancer Pickup & Watching the Show

Dancers do not need a ticket. They stay with their class volunteer backstage or in the upper seats.

Dancers cannot sit with parents before their routine — they'd miss their number and the line-up falls apart.

You may sign your dancer out during designated intermissions with their volunteer. No child may be signed out early (before the end of show) without prior notification, and the person checking out must be on the dancer's Jackrabbit account.

🎙Check-Out After the Show

After bows, we announce each dancer remaining in our care by name from the stage over the microphone. One family member per dancer comes up to collect them — please don't send the whole family, it creates a bottleneck.

If your family member isn't there yet: The dancer stays with their class volunteer until you arrive. We will not release your child to anyone else without your OK. Please text your child's teacher if you're delayed so we can reassure your dancer.

👗What to Wear

Stage-ready hair (high bun) and dancewear. Check your child's profile in Find My Child for their full schedule.

💇Hair

Classic high bun for ALL dancers. Slicked back, no stray hairs, no flyaways.
Most dancers don't have time to change hair between genres — one bun for everything.
Use gel + hairspray + bobby pins. Keep a comb & spare pins in your dance bag for backstage touch-ups.

📖 How to make a ballet bun (tap to open)
What you'll need: brush, fine-tooth comb, water spray bottle, gel, hairspray, hair elastic, bobby pins (matching hair color), hair net, optional bun-form/donut.

Step 1 — Damp + smooth. Mist hair with water (or wet brush) and apply a small amount of gel to control flyaways.
Step 2 — High ponytail. Brush all hair up to the crown of the head — not too high, not too low. Aim level with the top of the ears. Secure with a tight elastic.
Step 3 — Smooth the front. Use the comb + a touch more gel to smooth back any bumps or flyaways. Hairline should look slick.
Step 4 — Twist. Wrap the ponytail tightly into a coil, twisting as you go. (Optional: slide a bun-form/donut around the elastic and wrap hair over it for a fuller bun.)
Step 5 — Wrap into a bun. Coil the twisted ponytail around the elastic base, tucking the ends underneath.
Step 6 — Pin securely. Use bobby pins in an X pattern around the bun — top, bottom, left, right, then more as needed. Aim for at least 8 pins for shows.
Step 7 — Hair net. Slip a hair net over the bun and tuck the edges under to lock it down. Net color should match hair.
Step 8 — Hairspray. Mist generously to lock in. Re-check for flyaways.

Tip: For very short or layered hair, use extra gel and small bobby pins along the hairline. For curly hair, slick with a strong gel and a wet brush before drying.

💄Makeup

Light, age-appropriate makeup only. Same look for everyone — leads included.
Stage lights wash out faces, so a little goes a long way: light blush, mascara (if age-appropriate), and a soft pink or red lip. Skip heavy eyeshadow.

Lobby Entertainment & Show Extras

The show extends to the lobby! Arrive early to enjoy these extras — all proceeds benefit our LEAP Performing Arts Company nonprofit.

🤹 Professional Juggler — Geoffrey Marsh: Performing mid-show as featured entertainment. @jugglinggeoffmarsh

🎪 Lobby Games: Open before the show and during intermissions for younger siblings and dancers waiting for their numbers.

🍿 Concessions: Snacks, drinks, popcorn, and treats available throughout the show.

🎨 Custom Show Shirts: Decorate your own Aladdin show shirt at the lobby table — great keepsake for dancers and families.

📸 Aladdin Photo Backdrop: Capture family photos with our themed backdrop in the lobby.

🎶 Raffles: Grab a ticket in the lobby for a chance to win prizes — winners drawn during intermission.

💐 Bouquets & Well Wishes: Pre-orders can be picked up at the lobby table. Order here ›

📷Photography & Video

Photos and video are welcome from your seat throughout the show. No flash — it distracts the dancers and washes out the stage lighting. Please stay seated while recording so you don't block other families' views.

💃Dancer Pickup & Watching the Show

Dancers do not need a ticket. They stay with their class volunteer backstage or in the upper seats. Dancers cannot sit with parents during the show — they'd miss their number and the line-up falls apart.

🎙️Check-Out After the Show

After bows, we announce each dancer by name from the stage over the microphone. One family member per dancer comes up to collect them — please don't send the whole family, it creates a bottleneck.

For our Blacksburg show, dancers will leave with their costumes. We will have a designated time to return the costumes to the studio to help us keep everything organized — details will be shared after the show.

If your family member isn't there yet: The dancer stays with their class volunteer until you arrive. We will not release your child to anyone else without your OK. Please text your child's teacher if you're delayed so we can reassure your dancer.
